The war for the market of small car is hotting up and skepticism to the Tata’s Rs 1 lakh people’s car has given to fear in the hearts of the competitors. Now many companies are rushing to tap this virgn market at the buttom of the pyramid. Bajaj, the countries second larget two wheeler maker which give us “The Hamara Cheetak” way back during the licence raj and good bikes like pulsur recenly, has yesterday unveiled their concept small car whic they are planning to make in colaboration with and Renault - Nissan with an approximate price tag of $3000 and it will take another 3 - 4 years or so to hit the road. However, the Bajaj car may not be for Rs 1 lakh and is likely to cost more. Suzuki said they will make a small car. The market is really hotting up. The New Delhi auto expo has already started today and the big day is tomorrow when the Rs 1 lakh Tata’s people’s car will be launched.

If you take look at the pictures you will see that Bajaj has removed the centre panel and placed the two front seats touching each other. Also, the gear shaft has been placed on the dashboard. The concept car is built on Bajaj’s ‘Lite’ platform.
It is a good sign that Bajaj has embraced the competition as it is quite clear that its two wheeler sales will get hit once the Tata’s 1 lakh car hits the market. People in the higher end of the bike market who were not able to afford a car will surely go for a comfortable car. If the 1 lakh car succeds it will be a revolution and will usher in a new era of car manufacturing in India. It is a great sign that Indian companies like the Tata, Bajaj, Mahindra etc are into serious R&D and wants to have their own intellectual property.
